The Road Less Traveled
Yesterday, I went to Punta Gorda for a land auction. The auctioneer enticed the bidders with his crossfire speaking and assistants walking around saying, "You should bid, prices are never this low!" The auction ended after just 26 bids because the seller wasn't happy with the going prices. (Around $4,000 per lot - 1/8 of an acre) After it ended, instead of I-75, we took the road less traveled. Driving through the middle of the everglades was such an amazing experience. We saw alligators, wood storks, great white herons, cows galore, and just open fields of nature. Our tourist urges took hold and we visited Billy Swamp Visitor Center where they have airboat and swamp buggy rides, and shows. We didn't ride, but we plan on going again next week, after another land auction. I will always cherish yesterday's mini-road trip. Below, are a few of the animals we saw at the Center. I like the top ostrich because it's as if he's giving me a dirty look. Like, "What'chyou lookin' at?" The baby ostrich was so adorable, his face makes me melt. The florida panther was just astounding. He meowed like a giant cat. And of course, let's not forget Mr. Alligator. More alligators to come...
